Cato Draaisma
Dutch, b. 2001
I make films with a focus on nature conservation, the climate crisis and activism, from a social perspective. In the last few years, I have developed a filming style that’s experimental and mixes documentary and fiction, to explore big topics on a small scale such as the energy transition, birds, and silence. I am using filmmaking to actively get involved in a community and as the start of a sustainable collaboration. Although I am very drawn to film, my practice is not limited to it. I am a filmmaker, who also performs, makes installations, and protests.
I graduated ‘Interdisciplinary Arts’ in Maastricht with a short film called ‘Winds of Change’. Together with Shetlanders I researched how the process of filmmaking can act as a bridge in the polarization created by a wind farm on the Shetland Islands.
